Network News or Useful Idiots: Whose Side Is CNN On?

Congressman Duncan Hunter is mad. As a result of CNN’s willful submission of its network as a propaganda arm for enemies of the United States, Representative Hunter, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, “asked the Pentagon on Friday to remove CNN reporters embedded with U.S. combat troops.” According to the Army Times, Hunter said “the network’s broadcast of a video showing insurgent snipers targeting U.S. soldiers was tantamount to airing an enemy propaganda film.” (Here’s a link to the CNN sniper video if you have not seen it.)

That was last Friday, but Congressman Hunter still had not calmed down yesterday when Wolf Blitzer (CNN) interviewed him. Take a look at the video on “Hot Air”Duncan basically demolishes Blitzer’s defense of CNN, and then asks: “Does CNN want America to win this thing?”

In case you are stumped by Duncan’s question, Michelle Malkin emphatically provides you the answer: “CNN wants us to lose this war.” Check out her spot on Bill O’Reilly’s show last night. Malkin was clearly not amused by O’Reilly’s weasel-like defense of CNN’s use of the sniper video propaganda. Kirsten Powers, who was on the O’Reilly’s segment, did not appear as strong as Malkin. Powers later blogged her thoughts on the subject:

A simple rule should be if a terrorist organization puts together a propaganda film, you don't act as their distribution mechanism. The argument of CNN that people need to know that American soldiers are being killed by insurgents is laughable. Newsflash for CNN: Americans know our soldiers are being killed by insurgents. Anyone who doesn't know that has been living under a rock for the last three plus years. Let's remember: this video shows American soldiers being shot in cold blood. That's somebody's son or daughter.

Michelle Malkin also made note of the O’Reilly experience on her blog. She had obviously not calmed completely down. Malkin wrote:

As you can tell from my O'Reilly appearance tonight, I am not in a good mood.

I am not in the mood to hear about how CNN is justified in broadcasting "great footage" of American soldiers getting picked off by Iraqi snipers because it's "great footage."

I am not in the mood to hear about how dealing with terrorists and serving as terrorist public relations officers is the only way for the American media to get "access" to the region and to awaken the American public to the horrors of war.

I am not in the mood to hear about how it's only natural for "international media outlets" like CNN to put their allegiances to global citizenry and the almighty dollar over journalistic ethics.

I'm with Rep. Duncan Hunter, whose video clip challenging CNN earlier today is must-see.

Now I want to turn my anger into something productive. I am asking you to combat CNN's glorification of Iraqi jihadist snipers by supporting American snipers. Seems like the only time American snipers earn CNN and other international media organization's attention is when they make mistakes and can be tarred as reckless killers.

Americansnipers.org (formerly Adopt a Sniper) collects items to support our troops. You can read letters from the front here. Donate here.

I choose sides. The side of the American sniper. We know which side CNN is on. How about you?

Since she asked, I’m happy to volunteer that I am on the side of great Americans like Congressman Duncan Hunter, Michelle Malkin, President Bush, and the United States Military. It really doesn’t take much courage to declare my allegiance though – look at the tough people I have on my side! I’d take them over CNN any day.
